A spark of curiosity often begins a career journey. For Tuhina Bhuniya, that curiosity was fueled by a desire to understand how technology connects people, machines and the world around us. While she was intrigued by how satellites enable communication across vast distances, it was the intelligent technologies in modern vehicles that truly sparked her interest in electronics and semiconductors.
Growing up, Tuhina was always fascinated by connected technologies and how they simplify everyday life. While satellite communication sparked her curiosity about how information travels across vast distances, it was the intelligent features in modern vehicles that truly captured her interest.
One experience that particularly stood out was exploring the advanced features in her family's SUV. Features such as adaptive cruise control, intelligent driver assistance systems (ADAS), digital dashboards and connected vehicle technologies made her wonder how a vehicle could sense its surroundings, process information in real time and assist drivers in making safer decisions.
Rather than simply admiring these innovations, she wanted to understand the engineering behind them. As Tuhina explored further, she discovered how semiconductors power the sensing, connectivity and processing technologies that enable modern mobility. This curiosity gradually evolved into a strong interest in electronics and communication systems, inspiring her to pursue a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Tuhina shares:
"I was always curious about technologies that keep the world connected—from satellite communication systems to the intelligent features found in modern vehicles. Learning how semiconductors enable innovations such as ADAS, connectivity and smart mobility fascinated me and inspired me to pursue Electronics and Communication Engineering."

During her final year at university, Tuhina joined NXP as a hardware analog intern on the Analog Validation team, working on LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory technologies. It was her first opportunity to experience semiconductor engineering outside the classroom.
One of the most memorable experiences from her internship was working with thermal validation setups and observing how silicon behaves under extreme temperature conditions ranging from -40 °C to 125 °C. Tuhina recalls:
"For the first time, I could see concepts that I had learned at university being applied to real hardware. It gave me a completely new appreciation for semiconductor engineering."

Throughout her internship, Tuhina worked on post-silicon validation activities, including hardware debugging and silicon bring-up. Along the way, Tuhina developed not only technical knowledge, but also the structured problem-solving mindset required to investigate complex engineering issues.
What Tuhina enjoyed most was participating in debugging discussions and learning how experienced engineers approached problems systematically. Tuhina reflects:
"Every debugging session became an opportunity to learn. I learned how to analyze system behavior, investigate root causes and approach problems with a structured mindset."

The experience helped her bridge the gap between her university studies and real-world engineering.
While technical learning was a major part of the internship, Tuhina says that the support of her colleagues was equally important. From day one, Tuhina felt comfortable asking questions, seeking guidance and gradually taking ownership of her work.
Her mentor and teammates supported her development, helping her build confidence while learning the technical aspects of the DDR domain. Through collaborating with colleagues across different functions, Tuhina also gained a better understanding of how teams work together to develop and validate semiconductor products together. Tuhina explains:
"My internship taught me that technical skills alone are not enough. Communication, collaboration and the ability to learn from others are equally important."

After six months of learning and growth, Tuhina achieved a milestone she had been working toward: transitioning from intern to full-time employee at NXP. For her, the moment represented much more than a job offer. Looking back, Tuhina says:
"Receiving my full-time conversion was one of the most memorable moments of my life. It was a reflection of years of hard work, learning and perseverance. What made the moment even more special was being able to celebrate it with my parents, mentors and colleagues who had supported me throughout the journey."

Today, Tuhina continues to build her expertise as an analog validation engineer while expanding her knowledge of semiconductor technologies every day. Her goal is simple: to keep learning, take on new challenges and continue to grow as an engineer.
For students who are considering a career in the semiconductor industry, Tuhina encourages them to stay curious and embrace every learning opportunity. Her advice is simple:
"Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's okay not to know everything on day one. Every task, discussion and debugging session becomes an opportunity to learn. Stay curious, step outside your comfort zone and make the most of every opportunity."

Tuhina's story shows how curiosity, persistence and a willingness to learn can turn an interest developed as a student into a rewarding engineering career. For Tuhina, an internship is exactly where that career journey started.
You might discover—just as Tuhina did—that an internship can be the first step toward a bright and rewarding career at NXP.
