Android operating system (OS) brings features and flexibility that address many of the challenges for embedded applications. Industrial, networking, storage and media equipment manufacturers can benefit from the Android framework to create new innovative products and deploy value-added services faster and less expensive than traditional methods.

By combining Android OS with NXP’s high-performance embedded processors, built on Power Architecture® technology, equipment manufacturers can create platforms which dynamically instantiate applications and network services to enhance the user experience.

The MPC8536-ADK is a hardware and software platform for design engineers to quickly evaluate Android bytecode operation on the MPC8536E. The MPC8536-ADK platform is preconfigured with Android, Dalvik and demonstration applications. In addition, the MPC8536-ADK platform is shipped with the source code, tool chain and instructions to rebuild the Android run-time environment.
