TC10 Sleep and Wake-up in the Zone - a System Solution with 10BASE-T1s and CAN

About This Training

Everybody in the industry knows the meaning when people talk about "OPEN TC10": The sleep and wakeup procedure remotely via the data channel, as defined by Technical Committee 10 (TC10) of OPEN Alliance. TC10 recently finalized the standard for 1000BASE-T1, which ensures a seamless wakeup capability within the T1-Ethernet world. Next to it, OPEN Alliance’s TC14 is busy with defining the same for 10BASE-T1S and legacy networks, like CAN, support such remote wakeup already for years.

With the introduction of zonal architectures, the boundary between different communication technologies becomes blurred. The network is expected to become more transparent and is to follow the actual need of data transport. This also applies for the sleep and wakeup capability to balance availability of nodes and power savings, to serve the need for more partially available systems (e.g. during charging).

This presentation will present the status of standardization and the main differences in remote wakeup procedures of different technologies. Based on this, challenges on system interaction and a system solution approach for zonal edge applications will be discussed.
